Say Yes To Eco Friendly Ganesha
Finally the most
awaited Festival of Maharashtra and one of my favorite festivals started today.
Though it is celebrated with great joy all over India, but in Maharashtra and especially
in Pune the colors of this festival are very different. I am lucky that I am
here in Pune to experience it all. The preparation started 10-15 days early; everyone
was busy in shopping the best things for their Bappa. Shops also have much stuff. But in this
celebration we are forgetting the environmental Balance.
This festival is made
by Lokmanya Tilak for communal Harmony. Leaving behind the motto, the
celebration is taking another face. Earlier, people used to bought idols made
up of pure clay; now a days that idols
are replaced by huge idols of plaster of
paris(POP).
Disadvantages
of idols Plaster of Paris :
·
POP consist of harmful chemicals(Mercury,
Lead, Arsenic,etc.)
·
During Visarjan, idols are immersed in
water; this chemicals get dissolve in water
·
This toxic water is harmful for aquatic
life.
·
This water is consumed by human also
which is dangerous for health.
Instead of using this
idols we should go for other methods
Eco
friendly Practices:
·
Buy pure clay idols of small size, stone
or bronze idols.
·
Do a symbolic immersion.
·
Say no to decorative materials of
Plastic and thermocol.
·
Avoid loud speakers
